Join the AFRL Small Business Hub for an exclusive exploration into the Future-Ready of Advanced Manufacturing for Extreme Environments Collider on April 25, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm. This event is tailored for companies at the forefront of advanced materials manufacturing, offering insights into the Air Force's evolving needs, invaluable partnerships with leading universities, and cutting-edge training opportunities for your workforce. Discover the key to unlocking your company's potential in advanced materials and stay ahead in the competitive landscape. Register now to secure your place at this pivotal Collider!

The University of Akron (UA) and Youngstown State University (YSU) will partner with Wright Brothers Institute (WBI) to lead research programs of interest to AFLCMC Rapid Sustainment Office, AFRL, and NASA and adjoining industries on advanced materials and devices for extreme conditions.

The research program will leverage on the excellence in polymers, ceramics, and metals and manufacturing processes at UA and YSU and incorporate the tools from artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and lifecycle analysis to develop next generation material systems and devices at sufficiently high technology readiness levels (2-5). These materials are meant to survive extreme conditions, such as high temperature (>1000 °C), cryogenic temperatures, high wind, exposure to high salt concentration, exposure to airborne sand blasts, high oxygen, ozone, and UV exposure, and high rates of deformation at very high or very low temperatures or at very high altitude or underground. Significant intellectual properties and opportunities for workforce training are anticipated.
